Summer Camp for Kids and Teens
Outdoor Discovery (ages 8-10 &
11-12):
With
Outdoor Discovery, campers learn how to camp, canoe, cave, and rock climb plus
more traditional camp activities including archery, soccer, kickball, and capture-the-flag. This is a perfect introduction to
the outdoors, Starting with ages 8-10 and
extending to 11-12, Outdoor Discovery offers
your young adventurer the opportunity to explore the outdoors while
participating in age-appropriate adventure activities. With its own "Base Camp"
our Outdoor Discovery Program is planned and designed to include all the
adventure of our standard program with the specific needs and desires of the
8-12 age group. In our move to develop a more age-appropriate wilderness
experience, campers will not be 100% submerged into the outdoors. Instead they
will have the unique opportunity to combine a "wilderness camp" without leaving
all of the comforts of home behind. Our full service kitchen will prepare some
of their meals, while others are prepared by the group under the supervision of
their leaders. In addition, sports fields and a covered pavilion allow for
rainy day activities. And our showerhouse allows campers to get as dirty as
they please. Outdoor Discovery is designed to prepare a participant for future
adventures in the outdoors.
Classic Adventures (ages
11-12, 13-14 & 15-17)-(Virginia):
This is where it all
began . . . the courses that have given Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing
its name. Our one-week courses introduce participants to a variety of outdoor
activities, while two and three-week courses allow participants to build up to
more advanced levels. At the beginning of each course participants are issued
backpacks, sleeping bags, tents, cook sets, food, and other supplies needed for
an exciting outdoor experience. Regardless of age or trip length, groups will
backpack, canoe, or bike to a different campsite each day, and will spend their
nights around a campfire, camping beneath the stars. No previous experience is
required as our leaders and instructors begin activities at an introductory
level and slowly advance by teaching and promoting safety, responsibility,
stewardship, respect, and teamwork.
Specialized Trips (ages 13-15 & 14-17)-(Virginia
& West Virginia):
As our program has grown
over time and participants have returned year after year seeking new
experiences and friendships, we found the need to offer courses that provide
more time and instruction in select activities. The difference between our
Specialized Trips and our Classic Adventures lies in the number of outdoor
activities on which the course focuses. Participants sharpen skills in the
activities they enjoy most through specialized instruction and ample practice.
Whether your interest is kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, or outdoor
leadership, we have designed specialized programs that will take you to new
levels of outdoor adventure. As in all of our courses, each trip begins at an
introductory level and builds toward advanced instruction and increased
participant responsibility.
Teen Travel-Earth Explorations (ages 15-18)
Our leaders at WAEL come from around the world, and many carry with them a lifetime of experience in adventure and outdoor leadership. Thanks to our adventurous staff and our commitment to offer you the best in adventure programming, we have designed Earth Explorations so you can travel the world with us. These trips focus on individual growth in a global format; you will discover new cultures, new landscapes, and a newfound world view.
Earth Explorations are teen travel camps designed to give teens of similar ages the opportunity to travel to exotic destinations such as Alaska, Puerto Rico, Vietnam, Panama, and beyond. Each year we choose one destination to be our featured trip. These trips are limited to WAEL Alumni. WAEL Alumni are those participants who have been through at least one of our trips before. Space is limited so make sure you sign up early. Click here to learn about this year's trip!
