Wilderness Leadership Course
Ages 15 - 17

map instruction

The ultimate adventure for those seeking to reach a new level in outdoor leadership! While traveling through some of Virginia and West Virginia's premier adventure and recreation areas, you will enjoy our most popular adventure activities while completing instructional sessions in outdoor leadership. Among the leadership classes included are: First Aid and CPR certification, Leave No Trace certificate, belay training, and basic trail-work techniques. As you assume a greater level of responsibility within the group, your leadership skills will improve and your group will continue to grow as a team. Group leaders use both formal and informal discussions to help you discover the qualities and traits needed to develop successful leadership skills. Along the way you'll participate in challenging and exciting adventure activities including mountain biking, white-water kayaking, and sea kayaking along the New River, backpacking through the Blue Ridge Mountains, and rock climbing and white-water rafting in the New River Gorge of West Virginia. While in the New River Gorge area we do a Service Project in association with the New River Alliance of Climbers & the National Park Service. Join us for this amazing 28-day adventure!

Activities: white-water rafting, mountain biking, sea kayaking, white-water kayaking, community service projects, rock climbing, rappelling, belay training, 900' zip line, backpacking, CPR first aid, & more.

"I led Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing's first Wilderness Leadership Course. The trip was designed for participants with outdoor experience wanting to learn more backcountry leadership skills. During those four weeks I saw the participants discover their potential through team-teaching classes on outdoor ethics, acting as leaders for a day, and taking on added responsibilities within the group. It was exciting to see each group member gain more confidence in their leadership skills individually and learn how to be a strong member of a team. One of our participants later told me that not a day goes by that he doesn't think about his experience on this course. That's the kind of impact that the Wilderness Leadership Course has on its participants each summer."
