school & youth retreats
For over 15 years we've hosted schools and youth organization retreats. Options from day trips to week long field trips customized to meet unique interests and budgets.
Wilderness Adventure programs build self confidence, teamwork and communication. Whether your goal is to strengthen community, celebrate the end of the year or engage in outdoor adventure, we can customize a trip just for you. Ask us about what meals, lodging, and activity options are right for you!
All our activity options offer the opportunity for teamwork and self discovery. Our on-site team-building programs are specifically designed to promote the Four Principles for Success designed by our founder, Colonel Gene Nervo, : Respect, Communication, Work Ethic, and Positive Attitude . These programs will guide your group through a progression of icebreakers and get-to-know you activities, trust building exercises, communication games, and group problem-solving on our Low Ropes Team-building Course, and High Ropes Adventure Course. Choose as many team-building activities as you like, and our staff will happily assist you in the planning process.
Lodging and Camping Options
Our beautiful property has three comfortable lodges perfect for accommodating school and youth groups. Our Main Lodge, Sly Lodge and Sneaky Cabin accommodate up to 80-90 people in full, twin and bunk beds. If you're interested in offering your school group an outdoor immersion experience, we are also able to offer extended camping and backpacking trips either with or without chaperone accompaniment. Or, combine the best of both worlds by integrating a camping experience into your stay at our lodge.
Of course, no stay would be complete without our phenomenal meal services! Our chefs and kitchen staff always prepare age-appropriate, healthy and appetizing meals for a day full of adventure!
Wilderness Adventure is proud to offer a wide selection of activities both on our base camp as well as off-property in the local mountains and national forest lands of southwest Virginia. Our base camp facility is home to an array of team building and challenge course facilities as well as our famous 900' zipline, 50' climbing wall, pond and hiking trails. Our highly trained professional staff also lead adventure activities such as mountain biking, rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, caving and more! All activities start at the beginner level and are a great introduction to adventure sports.
