For the February & March events the cost is $100 per person or $175 per couple and includes a diverse wine tasting with half glass portions paired with a gourmet 5 course meal to amuse the palate.  Look below for details on our first ever, unique New Year’s Wine & Dine.  Our new chef Kyle Caldwell grew up in the heart of the Blue Ridge specializing in slow roasted meats and expertly preparing fresh veggies out of his own garden. After working in restaurants across the country, he has decided to come back to his roots in southwest Virginia.  He specializes in “locavore” cuisine and makes even simple dishes fresh and unique.  Lodging and breakfast the next morning is also included in the price.

2014 Details NOW POSTED…

New Year’s Eve 2014:  This event will be unique and unlike any other Wine & Dine we’ve ever done! Just $75/person or $150/couple.  Already half the spaces are booked!

We have combined two of our favorite events, to bring you New River Valley’s best New Year’s Event for 2014.  For only $75/person you can ring in the New Year at Wilderness Adventure with owner/founder Colonel Gene Nervo as your host!  This New Year’s Party will start off with a unique cocktail hour that is a little different than anything you’ve seen before.  There will be stations around our elegantly rustic Main Lodge and at each station their will be a wine for you to taste, as well as a perfectly paired appetizer.  Try all the stations and come back to your favorite.  A complimentary full glass of wine is included during the cocktail hour.

After cocktail hour, everyone will be seated for a delicious plated meal which will also be served with a versatile local wine that is perfect for any occasion.  When making your reservation please inform our event coordinator of whether you would prefer a white meat, red meat or vegetarian entree.  Also while seated we will have a bubbles & sweets course for those with a sweet tooth.  After dinner & dessert will be the dancing!  Work off some of those calories by boogieing down with DJ Earl Brown and enjoy the ambiance of our unique facility.

At midnight you will be provided with party favors and a champagne toast for the count down to 2014.  As with all of our events, overnight accommodations and a full, hot breakfast are included in the price.  New Year’s is a very popular event so make sure that you sign up quick!

Barboursville Vineyards

Defying the unanimous advice of government officials, land owners, and bankers to plant tobacco at Barboursville, Gianni Zonin — 6th generation heir to a family wine enterprise active since 1821 in the Veneto (Italy) — acquired this plantation in 1976 with the seemingly ridiculous expectation of creating a vineyard.  Jefferson had attempted this, persistently into the 19th Century at Monticello (his plantation just 21 miles from Barboursville), always failing to achieve a single harvest.

In 2006, on the occasion of celebrating the winery’s 30th anniversary as “setting the standard” for a region now populated by more than 100 vineyards, Gianni and Silvana Zonin opened a new wine museum at Barboursville, looking back upon centuries of Italian viticulture, and a barrel aging room for Octagon, where the history of their creation of the estate that gave birth to a new wine region is laid out upon the walls in illustrated chapters, culminating in the validation of Octagon, itself, as the crowning achievement of Virginia viticulture.  These rooms are open to the public every day, on the same schedule as the Tasting Room.

With an amazing selection from varietals to smooth blends they have plenty of wines to suite even the pickiest of wine drinkers.  More details about the wine selections and pairings coming soon!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2014:
Altillo Vineyards

(Formerly AltaVista Vineyard’s & Winery in Hurt, VA)  Altillo Vineyards is a small family-run vineyard and winery that specializes in limited production of finely crafted wines.  While they may have a bit higher price tag it is for a good reason!  Unlike many Virginia Vineyards, Altillo ensures that their grapes are from their own vineyard or supplemented from high quality grapes provided ONLY by Virginia growers.  Just speaking with the father & son duo for a short time gives you a great deal of insight of the dedication this winery has to staying local and using quality product.  You can find the father & son team selling their wines on the lookout up to Mountain Lake near Blacksburg on a sunny day, and at a variety of other events.  Follow them on facebook to get updates on harvests, events and wines.
