Trip Description

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery! During this 14-day river excursion, you and your group will learn the basics of kayaking, Eskimo rolling, canoeing, sea kayaking, rock climbing, rappelling, and white-water rafting as you paddle the scenic waters of the New River through Virginia and West Virginia.

Each night, your group will relax around a campfire, discuss the river route for the following day, and camp along the river’s banks or upon its scattered islands. You will have the opportunity to spend multiple days perfecting the paddling technique required for each type of boat while basking in the sun and taking frequent dips in swimming holes along the way.

Once you reach the New River Gorge, you will hop into rafts for some class III-IV white water. This is the perfect trip for anyone who loves the water and wants to gain a basic understanding of its flow while developing and improving upon his or her paddling skills.

The trip begins as you and your group arrive at our base camp, pack the dry-bags you will be using throughout the trip, and head out to the New River where you’ll load into canoes. After a few tranquil days canoeing down the river, your group will be met by our instructors for a white-water rescue class. From there, you’ll enter the sea kayaking portion of your adventure. Once in sea kayaks, your group will head down the river into West Virginia and eventually arrive at Bozoo Rocks for a day of rock climbing on these unique and beautiful sandstone cliffs. After another day of sea kayaking and a full day of white-water kayaking, you and your group will load into our vans for a shuttle to the New River Gorge. Here you will conclude your adventure with a day in white-water kayaks on the upper section of the gorge followed by a full and exhilarating day of white-water rafting down the lower section through class III-IV rapids.
