The WAEL difference

Camp life

For more than 30 years, Wilderness Adventure has been guided by four core values:

Respect · Attitude · Work Ethic · Communication (RAWC)

Rock Climbing Summer Camp brings these values to life through trust, accountability, and perseverance—helping climbers grow stronger, more confident, and more capable on the wall and beyond.

Living outdoors creates a tight-knit group where teamwork, communication, and mutual support are part of daily life.

This balance of challenge and downtime is where friendships form and confidence sticks.

1

Welcome & First Climb

Campers arrive, get settled into camp, and meet their climbing group and instructors. The afternoon introduces the climbing wall, safety systems, and basic movement skills before campers get their first climbs in. The evening focuses on camp setup, dinner together, and conversations about goals, expectations, and what it means to be a good climbing partner.

2

Learn the Systems

The day is dedicated to building strong foundations. Campers learn rope systems, knots, belaying techniques, and safety checks before climbing a variety of routes on the wall. Instructors help campers refine technique, build confidence, and begin working toward belay certification. Evenings are spent relaxing, cooking, and sharing stories from the day.

3

Move Better, Climb Smarter

Campers focus on movement and efficiency, learning how to trust their feet, conserve energy, and solve climbing problems. The day includes longer climbing sessions, rappelling practice, and increasing independence on the wall. Campers begin applying skills with greater confidence and control.

4

Expedition Day

Midweek, the group travels to an off-site climbing area for a full day on natural rock. Campers experience climbing on sandstone cliffs, learning how outdoor environments differ from the wall and how to adapt to real rock features. The day emphasizes focus, teamwork, and respect for climbing access and ethics.

5

Push Your Limits

Climbers take on new challenges—harder routes, longer climbs, and more advanced techniques. Campers are encouraged to set personal goals, support their partners, and celebrate progress. The evening wraps up with a campfire and reflection on growth throughout the week.

6

Climb, Celebrate, Reflect

The final full day blends favorite climbs with fun challenges and group activities. Campers revisit routes, test new skills, and enjoy a relaxed pace before a closing campfire filled with stories, laughter, and well-earned pride. Camper also participate in the famous all-camp WA-Olympics and huge spaghetti dinner!

7

See You Next Year!

After breakfast, campers return gear, say goodbye to their climbing partners, and head home stronger, more confident, and inspired to keep climbing.
